The Empress Hotel has been a Victoria
Inner Harbour Landmark
for almost 100 years. Opened in 1908 and built in the Edwardian
style it has been recently restored to its original grandeur.
Designed by 25-year-old Francis
Rattenbury , who also designed the BC
Parliament Buildings, the Empress Hotel almost never existed.
Sir Thomas Shaughnessy, president of the CPR didn't want to build
Hotel in Victoria because he felt there would not be enough business.
